About Gabrielle de Burke
Early childhood exposure to the disciplined moving arts of theatre and dance inspired Gabrielle as a young adult to study yogic, martial and internal arts. She resonated deeply with these practices, finding that they helped promote mental clarity, maintain focus, heal injuries, offered an integrated fitness regimen, brought balance to the demanding lifestyle of a full-time undergraduate student / self-employed artist.
During this period, Gabrielle immersed herself in the Taoist Internal and Martial Arts by training with Master Chik Quadir Mason, founder of the Spirit Wind Internal Arts Society. She received many certifications of study in forms ranging from Pa-Kua Chang, Tao Yin Yoga, Chi Kung, to Tai Chi Chuan, and earned her “Warrior Sash” for Kung Fu. She now actively participates in group instruction, demonstrations, and collaborative performances. In 2000, Gabrielle earned her B.A. from Temple University’s Department of Theater (with an exploratory concentration in dance, music and voice) while actively training and engaging in an apprenticeship under Sifu Mason. With his encouragement, she began her teaching career in the healing arts.
Gabrielle’s work as a healing arts practitioner and instructor continues to meld with her work as an inter-disciplinary performance artist; she sisters together internal and martial arts forms with dance, poetry and theater presentation (see www.theplumdragoness.com).
Gabrielle has now been teaching for over a decade. She is registered and insured through the Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 200 (Experienced-Registered Yoga Teacher) and is able to offer Teacher Trainings. She holds a Teacher Training certification in Radiant Lotus Women’s Qi Gong (Level I) from Daisy Lee, completed a 200 hour ERYT in Vinyasa Power Yoga with The Yoga Alliance, and obtained both Level I and II Tao Yin Yoga certificates from the Spirit Wind Internal Arts Society.
In addition, she studied Ashtanga Yoga with Miko-Doi Smith [From the Heart Yoga], Yin Yoga with Sarah Powers [Insight Yoga Institute], Yang style T’ai Chi Chuan with Master Yang Jun [Yang Family Tai Chi], Yin Taoist Yoga with Master Pauli Zink [The Yin Yoga Institute], Thai Bodywork with Michael Buck and Debbi Philpotts [Vedic Conservatory], Acro-Yoga with Justicia Friese [Maha Yoga Studio], Yoga for At-Risk Populations with James Fox [The Prison Yoga Project] and Capoeira with Mestre Doutor [American Society of Capoeira + Arts from Brazil].
Gabrielle is the founder of the stylized fusion healing art forms of Yo-Fu™ & Dragon Spirit Yoga™. She now facilitates private lessons, group classes and workshops, and is available for Thai Bodywork sessions.
She reveres yoga and other meditative moving arts modalities as precious tools that remind us to . . .
“anchor into the rhythm of the breath,
practice mindful movement . . .
maintain vertical alignment ,
all while finding active stillness!”
